Fathers & Sons

On April 30th and May 1st was our ward's Fathers and Sons. This is the first year that Brent was able to attend a Fathers and Sons outing with the boys. He can't remember ever going before, so it was a first for all three of them. They had a lot of fun, other than it getting REALLY cold at night. They unfortunately didn't get any pictures of Saturday because the camera's batteries died.

This was taken right after dinner. Cory had spilt his ramen noodles down his coat, so Brent gave him his sweatshirt to wear while Cory's coat dried by the fire.

There was a big group of dads and boys that came.

Cameron getting ready to go to sleep.

Cory was really tired, and kept asking to go to bed. I just wish he would do that at home.

While the boys went camping, Kenzie, Kayley, and I went to the park for dinner and water balloon games with a group of moms and daughters from the ward. We had a lot of fun, until Kayley had a water balloon pop on her shirt and she started to get cold.

FHE- Nephi

We did this a few weeks ago, I just was lazy and hadn't posted them yet. We told the kids the story of Nephi when he and his brothers went back for the gold plates. Then we had the kids act out the story. After, Laman was unsuccessful, Nephi followed the Lord's promotings and went to get the plates. We had each of the kids take turns being Nephi, and the other three waited outside until Nephi came for them.
This was Kenzie's turn being Nephi. She took Laban's shirt and the gold plates and went to go find her brothers.
The brothers were scared of Nephi and ran away.
Nephi telling his brothers that is him and not Laban.
I didn't get pictures of the kids individually killing Laban, so I did a group shot.

Apparently, Laban got drunk very easily since he is holding a water bottle. :)

Talent Show- Cameron's 1st Grade Class

At the school today they had a talent show. Cameron's class performed the "Hoedown Throwdown" from the Hannah Montana movie. That is such a fun song. All of our kids will start dancing whenever they hear it. They did a great job.

* Cameron is on the far left with his partner (kind of by themselves).

Super Reader

I have so many pictures I want to post, but that will have to wait until later. Yesterday Kayley came home from school with a trophy. This was a surprise to me because the award assembly is next Wednesday. I guess they did their reading assembly a different day. She was one of eight students from the school to receive the "Weinberg Elementary Star Reader 2,000,000 Words" award. She was also the only 4th grader. I would have loved to have been there because they had to do the Chicken dance in front of the whole school. Cameron said it was fun to watch. We are so proud of her. She is already setting the goal of at least 3 million words for next year.

WAY TO GO, KAYLEY!!!!!!!!!
We love you and are so proud of all your hard work.

Cory wanted a picture with his football trophy. He played flag football, with Brent as his coach. His team improved so much over the season and did a great job and had lots of fun.

Great big sister-to-be

Kenzie is practicing her skills on feeding and being a great helper.
This morning Kenzie asked for some cereal for her doll. So we got her a bowl, spoon and some Cheerios and she sat down to feed her doll. Of course after she fed her doll she would eat the cereal herself.

We were watching the Johnson's one night, and trying to get Owen to eat. Brent was able to get him to eat some, so Kenzie decided that she would try. She would follow him around with a spoon and tell him to take a bite.

FHE- Ammon

For this week's Family Home Evening we told the scripture story of Ammon and what a great example he was for us to follow. He followed what the Lord told him to do, and ended up converting lots of Lamanites.

We found some swords at Dollar Tree and let the kids re-enact the story. Cameron was our Ammon, and the others were the Lamanite robbers.

Cameron did a great job defending the "sheep."

FHE-fishing

Last Monday evening for Family Home Evening we went with our neighbors to a small pond not far from our house and went fishing (all catch and release). Before we went Brent talked to them how Jesus wants us to be "fishers of men," or missionaries. We told them sometimes just like fishing, missionaries have to be very patient and wait for the time to be right before someone is ready to become a member of the gospel and other times it happens very fast.

Waiting patiently.

Kayley probably
waited the longest and was
only able to catch one fish the whole evening.
But her's was one of the biggest catfish.

Cameron caught two fish. His first one (to the left) he wanted nothing to with. We had a hard time getting him to hold the line. The second one he realized it wasn't so bad and would then hold the line.

Cory was our luckiest fisherman. He caught the most (4) and the last one of the evening was the biggest. He reeled in a carp that was probably 4-5 pounds. It was big. (I just wish I could have gotten a picture of it that wasn't all fuzzy.)

Kenzie only caught one as well, but that was enough for her. I loved the picture to the right because it looks like she was talking to it.

Kayley decided that she wanted to bait her own hook. She picked up the chicken liver to put it on, and found the heart as well. GROSS!!! She thought it was so cool. I am wondering who's daughter she is because I would never do that.
